Quite simply, Memberoo is launching in Cardiff on June 7th, and we are really excited about it.
So, we wanted to find some of the coolest places in the city and share them with you.
Now, we are not talking about the Principality Stadium, or the castle. We’re more interested in the quirky, the cool, and the fun places where you can get some of the best food, drink and more in Cardiff.
You see, the thing about Memberoo is we want you to find great places in the city you’re in. So we had to do some diligent research. So we sent out our crack team of fun experts (Cameron and Jess) to find some of their favourite places and report back.
Located in the Castle Arcade, Science Cream is probably the most famous ice cream parlour in Wales at the moment. In 2016 alone, they appeared in The Guardian’s Best Cheap Eats, The Times’ Top Ten Ice Cream Parlours in the UK, Olive magazine’s Top Twelve Best Family Friendly Venues and BuzzFeed’s 17 Ice Creams To Try Before You Die.
The whole deal with Science cream is they make cream with… science. I know, unbelievable right? … but it’s really very clever. They use liquid nitrogen to instantly freeze their ice cream mixture, resulting in incredibly tasty, smooth, and refreshing ice cream, often in unusual flavours.
Everything they sell, from cookie sandwiches to milkshakes topped with peanut butter brownies and flame toasted veggie marshmallow, is handcrafted in their little ice cream parlour in Cardiff.
The whole place is decorated like a science lab, filled with liquid nitrogen ‘smoke’ and everything is delicious. What more could you ask for?
Renowned as one of Cardiff’s most laid-back retreats for cocktails, craft beers and speciality spirits, Buffalo Bar is pretty synonymous with nightlife in Cardiff.
In short, it’s an award-winning bar, kitchen and live music venue open seven nights a week. Awesome huh?. From working professionals using them for lunch and meetings, tp experiencing some great live music or comedy in the evening, it really does cater to everyone.
Located just off Queen Street on the right side of Cardiff’s thriving city centre Buffalo is (in their words) unshackled and 100% independent.
Worth a punt, right?
Little Man Coffee
It’s bigger than you think.
When is a coffee shop not a coffee shop? How about when it’s a coffee shop, gallery, theatre and more Little Man has been supporting creativity in Cardiff since it’s genesis and is the proponent of the hashtag. #haveyouseendownstairs.
Situated opposite Admiral Insurance’s HQ. On Bridge St, Little Man is famous for it’s minimalist style, and eccentricities. All the furniture is reclaimed and the food menu that is highly focused. As well as priding itself on the coffee it serves, with the coffee being sourced from all Welsh based roasters ( Welsh Coffee Co., James Gourmet Coffee Co. and Coaltown Coffee Roasters).
It’s kooky and minimal in just the right way, with great scenic views. An ideal lunch spot.
For those of you seeking something slightly more fancy, when it comes to bringing a little slice of Italy to the city centre they’ve gone the whole nine yards.
Run by Italian pastry chef Piero Cutrupi and Jonathan White, who has more than a decade’s experience in the food industry, Nine Yards is inspired by the European cafe culture. Featuring sliding wooden doors which open right back to display a selection of mouthwatering pastries which are freshly made at the premises – be prepared to be blown away.
But the secret about this place is that it’s an Italian patisserie by day and it transforms into a Prosecco bar at night.
It showcases a selection of hand-picked wine and Prosecco, chosen to match the pastries and savoury treats behind the deli counter. This turns the ground floor of the Bunkhouse on St. Mary Street in Cardiff into the intriguing mix of an Italian bakery, come deli, come wine bar.
With its focus on prosecco it already seems to have become a haunt of ladies that lunch.
If that’s your thing, there is nowhere better than Nine Yards.
So there you have it, some of our favourite places in Cardiff. With many more to come as we explore further.
Want to know the bonus…?
All of these places feature Memberoo! So when we launch on 7th, you’ll be able to get exclusive offers and rewards in these and dozens of other places in Cardiff straight away.
We’re excited about it, hope you are too!
